Eric Abbey, PhD. has been performing ska, reggae, and rocksteady music for over 25 years around the world.
His work with different groups and musicians has given him a strong sense and feel for Jamaican influenced music.
Having shared the stage with the Skatalites, Toots and the Maytals, Dennis Bovell, and many others, Eric has demonstrated his love for the music time and time again.
As a performer, he became frustrated on many tours having to listen to the music being played by venues between sets, mostly rock and pop music that killed the vibe. This was the start of the Pocket Sound System and his DJ career.
Starting off small with an ipod and some records, the system grew to be played throughout the world. His doctoral research on the original dub sound took him to Kingston, JA where he met legendary artists, sound system designers, and DJs. Through his love of the music, he recorded in Kingston with Jamaican musicians and released a full-length record under the moniker of Detroit Riddim Crew. This record was released on JumpUp Records internationally.
The Pocket Sound System continues to grow with a focus on the original sounds and contemporary feel.
